Global Company Culture Day

By Sharon Schweitzer

Every September 18th, Global Company Culture Day is observed to emphasize the significance of fostering a positive and productive work environment. This day, established by the Global Company Culture Association in 2019, encourages businesses and leaders to prioritize the values, attitudes, and behaviors that shape their organization’s culture. Although company culture is intangible, it can be observed through the actions, values, and choices of individuals within the company.

The idea for Global Company Culture Month came about after an employee survey conducted by Global Company Culture Association revealed that many employees were struggling to balance their work lives with their personal lives. The survey also showed that some employees felt isolated and misunderstood by their managers. Global Company Culture Association created a new initiative called “Global Company Culture Month.” This event encourages businesses worldwide to focus on creating a better work environment for everyone involved.

By 2015, it was acknowledged that the corporate culture is shaped by more than just the founders, management, and employees of a company. Factors such as national cultures, economic trends, international trade, company size, and products also play a role. Technological advancements have further modified business culture, creating a more diverse and globally connected environment for organizations.

Successful business cultures share certain qualities, including a clear vision, core values, established practices, talented individuals, a compelling story, and a conducive physical environment. The culture of a corporation influences its overall functioning, and potential employees are often attracted to companies whose culture aligns with their own values and preferences. For instance, a company that emphasizes innovation needs to foster a culture that supports and encourages creative thinking in order to attract and retain employees who thrive in such an environment.

Creating a positive work environment is the basis for every other initiative in the workplace, and is crucial for an organization’s success. Considering the uncertainty in today’s economic climate, now is the time to ensure employees are invested in their work and feel valued by their employers. And a good workplace culture can make that happen.
